Biography
Hand-built stoneware and furnishings inspired by the unique geological formations of the Northwest Highlands

ARD is a brand of tableware and other handmade objects inspired by the North Atlantic coast. The name comes from the Gaelic word for high place and the village of Ardheslaig, where ARD was born. These decorative and functional objects are tactile reminders of the elemental nature of the place they were made.

Magnus Livingstone, the artist behind ARD, is a self-taught surfboard maker, woodworker, metalworker, and ceramicist who has worked almost all his adult life in the seafood industry. He was brought up in a time and place where few other career choices seemed possible. His project with ARD is to uphold material integrity as a reminder to value our precious resources and wild places.

The hand-built stoneware and distinctive furnishings draw inspiration from the diverse hues of the temperate rainforest and the unique geological formations of the Northwest Highlands. The furniture and sculptural objects often incorporate materials sourced from the surrounding area. As each piece is unique, there are significant variations in shape and finish. All ceramics are both dishwasher-safe and food-safe.
