This residency is part of the broader COLD PARADISE PROJECTS, a venture inspired by and deeply rooted in a sense of place. This location provides an ideal setting for artists seeking a direct engagement with the landscape. Through this project, we aim to underscore the formal and conceptual connections between art and nature via firsthand research.
In the long term, we plan to host multiple artists, thinkers, scientists, and visitors and create publications and gatherings around thematic environmental issues. We also foresee inviting local artists and historians to lead workshops and give lectures about endangered crafts and subjects of cultural import to the area. Over time, we plan to develop a multidisciplinary space where local people, especially young people, can be exposed to outside influences and approaches. Above all, we hope to provide time and space for artists to create in and with nature.

Who's it for?
The residency is primarily aimed at visual artists, writers, musicians & choreographers. We are particularly interested in applicants whose practice involves a defined engagement with landscape, ecology, and/or projects that employ historical or site research. Please have your statement reflect this intention. If you have social practice or an interest in community engagement, this program may not be a good fit due to its isolated nature.

What's involved?
Currently, we are offering our cottage in Ardheslaig for two-week stays. The house sits on two acres of pristine grounds that extend down to the water’s edge along the shores of Loch Beag. As we don't have a formal studio yet, we are looking for artists who can feasibly work in the study or “in the field.” The gallery space is also available for documenting work or as a studio (note it is not heated). The program is currently self-guided, as we will not be physically on-site to oversee the project. Artists are welcome to bring a partner or family, and we do not ask for anything in return other than documentation and a small artwork. We also encourage participation in our summer show and on our website.
Please note that having a car is essential since the cottage is 1.5 hours away from Inverness and there are limited services nearby.
